An American B-29 flies over Osaka, Japan on June 1, 1945. During the spring and summer of 1945, American bombers dropped incendiary bombs on most major Japanese cities, burning them and killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. At least 10,000 Osakans died in the bombings and 35% of the city was destroyed.
